TERRAIN

Privacy Policy

Effective 8 October 2026 · Version 2026-10-08

The short version

  • Terrain helps a pastor understand the neighborhood around a church and plan ministry that fits it. We collect what we need to run it: your registration, the Spiritual Gifts results your members choose to send you, and the answers a neighbor chooses to leave on a connection card.
  • Most of your church’s work stays on your own device, not on our servers.
  • We do not sell your information, show advertising, or use tracking or analytics tools.
  • Some features send text to Claude, a writing service made by Anthropic, so it can write for you. We never send it your members’ or neighbors’ names.
  • You can ask us to delete your information at any time (how).

1. Who we are

Terrain (terrain.church, and pastorshub.org, which leads there) is provided by Muraworks, a business based in Pennsylvania, United States (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions: privacy@terrain.church.

2. Whom this policy is about

3. What we collect

Your registration

Your name, email address, church, role, conference, the language you chose, and whether you asked for news about Terrain. We keep one record for each email address on our servers, so you can sign in on another device. Terrain sends you no email unless you asked for news.

Your account and payments

When paid plans begin, you sign in with Google or with a link sent to your email, through Google Firebase Authentication. We keep your email address, a user number, your plan and its status, your Stripe customer number, and whether you have used the free trial. Payments are handled by Stripe on its own page: we never see or store your card number. Paid plans are not switched on yet.

Your church’s information stays on your device

The church’s address, the Community Survey, “Your church” (members, volunteers, rooms, skills, free times), your plans, proposals, decisions and notes, and the people on your connection cards are kept in your browser’s storage on your own device, not on our servers. Each device you use keeps its own copy. Clearing your browser’s data, or “Clear all” in Terrain, removes it.

To read the neighborhood, Terrain sends the church’s address to the U.S. Census Bureau (through our server), and the church’s location to OpenStreetMap’s services to draw the map and find community services and churches nearby.

Spiritual Gifts (church members)

When a member takes the assessment from your link, we receive their name, their answers, whether they are 18 or older, and, for an adult who asks for it, an email address to send their report to (email sending is switched off for now). The result is stored on our servers so it reaches you, and it is kept on your device too. People a member invites to confirm their gifts give a name and a few ratings, which are kept with the member’s result.

Presentations

The slides you present are stored for the life of the presentation (1, 7 or 30 days, as you choose) and then deleted, with any handout you offer. People following on their phones do not sign in. If someone answers “I’m in”, they may give a first name and choose Lead, Help or Pray; those answers are shown only to the presenter. The slide position is passed to phones through Google Firebase and carries no personal information.

Connection cards (neighbors)

A neighbor who fills in a church’s connection card gives a first name and their choices (for example, a prayer request or an invitation to the next event), and a phone number or email address only when a choice needs one. Only adults may send a card: anyone under 18 is thanked and nothing is sent or kept. The neighbor’s phone keeps nothing. The answers wait on our servers only until the pastor’s device collects them, then 30 days more, and never longer than a year.

Writing by Claude (on devices the pastor has unlocked)

Some features ask Claude, a writing service made by Anthropic, to study a neighborhood’s needs, suggest ministry ideas, find prices, or write a proposal’s words. What we send: the place’s name and its Census figures, the idea or ministry, the group, the goal, the slides’ words with the church’s, the pastor’s and the coordinator’s names replaced by placeholders, and, for prices, the item you need and your budget. We never send members’ or neighbors’ names, and never the church’s street address. The answers are kept up to 60 days so they are not written twice. Ideas a pastor chooses may be kept, without any name or place, to improve Terrain’s idea library.

Digital footprint (public information about churches)

For the churches of a conference, Terrain reads public information: the church’s entry in the Adventist church directory (eAdventist), including its name, address, phone, website, members count and the names of its pastor and staff as published there; the church’s public website pages; its public YouTube channel; Google’s public listing of the church (through Google’s Places service); and, when it is switched on, one web search for the church’s name. Terrain does not read Facebook or Instagram. Email addresses and personal phone numbers found on websites are removed before anything is kept or sent. The findings are shown only to registered pastors of that conference.

For an in-depth review of a church’s website, Terrain sends the website’s public text and up to six of its home page’s pictures to Claude. The review describes what pictures show; it is never asked who is in them. A church or a person who would like something corrected or removed can write to us.

Technical information

Like any website, our hosting provider receives your network (IP) address and basic information about your browser, and may keep it in short-term logs for security. To stop misuse, Terrain counts requests by a coded form of the network address that cannot be turned back into it; these counts are deleted within two days. We use no advertising or tracking cookies, and no analytics.

4. How we use it

We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We do not use it to train any computer model, and under its commercial terms Anthropic does not use what Terrain sends it to train its models.

5. Who else handles it

These providers run parts of Terrain. Each receives only what it needs, and its handling is governed by its own terms and privacy policy.

8. Children and young people

Terrain is made for pastors and church leaders, who are adults. Young people may take the Spiritual Gifts assessment when their pastor or youth leader invites them: the assessment asks whether they are 18 or older, asks them to tell a parent or guardian, asks no email address of anyone under 18, and keeps their result for one year. It is meant for young people 13 and older. If we learn that a child under 13 has sent us information, we delete it; a parent or guardian can also ask us to. Connection cards never accept answers from anyone under 18, and presentations never ask a young person’s name.

9. Your choices, and how to delete your information

You can also ask us what we hold about you, or to correct it. We answer within 30 days. Some states and countries give their residents these rights by law; we give them to everyone. We do not sell or share personal information as California law defines those words.

Write to: privacy@terrain.church.

10. Facebook and Instagram

Terrain does not read Facebook or Instagram today: Digital footprint shows only a link to a church’s page, found on the church’s own website. If Terrain offers it later and you choose to connect your church’s Facebook Page and its Instagram account, Terrain will read, with your permission, your pages’ posts, their dates, and how many people react, comment and share, so Digital footprint can show how current your pages are and what helps. It will never post, send messages, or read private messages, and it will use what it reads for nothing else. You can disconnect at any time, and we delete what was read within 30 days.

11. Security

Terrain uses encrypted connections (https) everywhere. Keys and passwords for the services above are kept on our servers, never in the page. A member’s result and a neighbor’s answers can be read only with a key held on the pastor’s device. No method is perfect; if a breach affects your information, we will tell you.

12. Where it is stored

Terrain and its providers store and process information in the United States. Terrain is made for churches of the North American Division; if you use it from outside the United States, your information is handled in the United States.

13. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we will post the new version here with its date. For an important change we will also tell registered pastors in Terrain or by email.
